“We shouldn’t have all these bruises,”

but we did, and now it’s useless.

Handwoven Wool, Acid Dye

52 x 65 in.

This work is about the feeling of abandonment, loneliness, and betrayal. The hand-woven wool blanket hung on two pins at the top right and left corners, was cut in the middle, creating two separate pieces of cloths hung at a single point, respectively. Though it was meant for comfort, warmth, and protection, it has become useless as a blanket. What was supposed to keep me safe and give comfort was torn, becoming useless trash. The higher the quality of the material, the nicer it used to be, the more painful, exhilarating, and saddening the cut becomes. The nicer the relationship that had been fostered, the more meaningful it was, the breakdown of it becomes more emotional and impactful. This is important trash that should be discarded but can’t be.

I dedicate this piece to CBF, who I thought was my best friend and who I thought would support me throughout my life.
